“How Did I Heal After My Stroke?”
Many have asked me this question - and it’s not an easy one to answer in a single sentence. But let me try to explain.
1. I Trusted God First.
In the darkest days of my stroke, when I couldn’t eat, open my eyes, or even sit up, all I could do was look up—literally and spiritually. I surrendered everything to God and leaned on His strength when I had none of my own. His comfort and presence gave me peace beyond words.
2. I Complied with Urgent Medical Care.
When I was hospitalised, I accepted the emergency treatments—because I knew my life depended on it. I submitted myself fully to the care and wisdom of the doctors and nurses.
3. I Took Charge of My Own Recovery.
After being discharged, I knew healing wasn’t just about what others did for me—it had to come from within. I took responsibility for my body, my nutrition, my supplements, and my mindset. I stopped certain medications that I knew wasn’t meant for long term use and that made me feel worse and replaced them with natural alternatives like red yeast rice, chromium, nattokinase, and network antioxidants. I resumed my VigourCells and other cellular nutrients like omega 3, vitamins D3 and K2, probiotics to restore my energy, protect my brain, and heal from within.
At the beginning, some of my greatest worries were how the drugs would affect my liver, kidneys and especially, my pancreas. I didn’t want my organs to become incapitated of functioning anymore and only rely on drugs to keep me alive. But getting off the drugs gave me a lot of worry and concerns too - so I had to take a deep breath and follow my gut instincts and science.
4. I Believed Healing Was Possible.
I didn’t just wish to be well—I wanted it. I prayed, visualised, and reminded myself daily: “I am healing. I will walk again. I will live fully.”
5. I Created My Own Challenges.
Healing isn’t just medical—it’s mental and emotional too. I gave myself little personal challenges: to walk around the block, to do some gardening, to stay up a little later, to sit longer at dinner, to take a short outing. And I celebrated these small victories. One step at a time. One bus ride at a time. Just by myself to show that I do it on my own. Eventually, I progressed from needing support and company everywhere I went… to confidently taking my first MRT train home—by myself.
6. I Stayed Consistent and Gentle with Myself.
Every day, I did what I could—bit by bit - walking more, eating better, sleeping deeply. No pressure, no guilt. Just grace and patience.
Today, I can say: I am healed. My stroke doctor officially discharged me and said I had graduated. He couldn’t believe how different I looked from when I was first wheeled into hospital.
Yes, “que sera sera—whatever will be, will be,” but I’ve learnt this:
Healing happens when we partner with what can be.
And with God, all things are possible.
Jeremiah 33:6
“Nevertheless, I will bring health and healing to it; I will heal my people and will let them enjoy abundant peace and truth.”
May you overcome whatever obstacles you may have in life to heal and grow too!
